R-404A
R-404A belongs to a group of chemicals called hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and is also known as HFC R-404A.
Description
R-404A is an HFC “nearly azeotropic” blend of 44% R-125 (Pentafluoroethane) + 52% R-143a (1,1,1-Trifluoroethane), , and 4% R-134a (Tetrafluoroethane). It is designed as a replacement of R-22 and R-502 CFC (Chlorofluorocarbon). Its liquid density is 0.485 g/cm3. Hydrofluorocarbons are colorless, odorless, nonflammable, noncorrosive gases or liquids of low toxicity mainly used in air conditioning systems in newer automotive vehicles, refrigerators, and freezers as a coolant/refrigerant. It is also used as propellants for aerosols by the pharmaceutical industry and as plastic foam blowing in the manufacturing industry.
